Good read in this thread. I've been wondering the same thing, what it would take to put PS on a my 782 from a 1864. But I have not even got my driveshaft in my 782 yet, after owning it for 3 years years. LOL
I will say the PS on my 2182 has completely soiled me,,, (err I mean spoiled me) |

I was just thinking that if he was putting it in a 782, I don't know that there is anyplace already there to mount the box, therefore he could put it wherever he wanted.

Sam, no flaming hate from me. I had a 1864 and it was a nice driving tractor, I just did not like all of the plastic. My 782 has all of the features of a 1864 except the tilt wheel since I upgraded it with the command engine, super steer and PS. To me it is just a better looking machine. As they to each their own.

I converted my 1811 from a 1641 PS valve, ram and front axle. I mounted the valve on the bottom of the tower at the frame cross member. I bought a part from Xtrememotorworks that was for another purpose but had the PS valve hole cutout in it along with the four bolt holes. It worked great. I took the shaft from the OEM 1811, sawed it to the length I wanted and placed it in a "V" of a piece of one inch angle iron I then welded it to the stub from the valve and also made it about three inches higher than the OEM 1811 shaft. I have never regretted the conversion for one minute. BTW, I went with hoses instead of hard lines because it was SOOOOO much easier and simpler. When you are ready to hook up the hoses you will quickly find out there is an order to it. If you start wrong you will say bad words!Here is the hydro bracket from Xtreme,

Picked up the 1864 frame tonight. It is very clear this is gone too far to think about rebuild.
A 5 minute evaluation in the dark with a flashlight found: No wiring harness All plastic panels broken Multiple bolts broken No engine No ignition switch No throttle cable or lever Only part of driveshaft Over 1/4 to 3/8 inch of grime on pump and rear axle Had to take the broken plastic panels and hood. On the positive side Complete power steering setup with hard lines Super steer front axle Both front rims (so so tires) Pump and linkage seem OK Rear brakes with pads and they work Axle doesn't appear cracked but grime could be hiding Mule drive Rear rims And more Will have to get clean up and do a better evolution. Would really like to test power steering and pump and lift. Have to rig up adaptor to spin the shaft.

You have another option. Find a clean 1641 and put the power steering on it along with the Sunstrand rear.
It might cost you more but it's hassle free. I can tell you, after doing two of them, they make one sweet handling tractor. In many cases, the damaged plastic can be repaired to usable status. The plastic holds up fine if you don't use it for a battering ram. |

I have become a sucker for the Cyclops tractors. I say fix up the 1864. Hydraulics aren't so bad on them also.
