Default Those plastic grills

About a year or so ago I put a new grill in my 2284. Doubt I have ran it over 10 hours since. Today I was tightening up the 2 bolts that stabilize the front axle and noticed one side has a crack under the bottom. Haven't ran into anything, nor do I think anything has ran into it under the shed. Wondering if I overtightened the grill when I installed it, or if its just a bad design. I don't remember any bad flashing that would have caused it to bolt down with excessive pressure, but can't swear to it.
Anyone else ever had this to happen or have an idea how to deal with it? I'm thinking that I will use some of the plastic welding type glue on it. Don't know if there is any way to reinforce it or not. Wonder if there is any product that I could use to "bed" the grill in place with? Thought about neoprene or using JB Weld to create a "nest" for it to sit in. Thought, ideas, suggestions?

I doubt it's anything you did. They all break eventually. Most sooner than later.

If the "grille" cracked in the center, under the opening, I suspect you slid the grille too far back on the frame and the grille bottomed out on the frame and cracked it. Don't know. Just an educated guess.

Since that thread, I've bought other tractors that have no plastic damage that are 25+ years old. You just can't ram them in to things or ham fist the plastic when you move the panels.

I'm guessing you have the factory metal plate with the two nuts welded on it in there? I have one I need to buy a grille for. really wish I new more about casting, I'd try to cast one in aluminum!

The plastic is pretty much why I decided I like the 82 series better.

I think the grills crack due to age and heat even if no impact. I have repaired with sections of PVC from electrical boxes. Unfortunately, the PVC is also affected by the heat.

Would fiberglass tolerate the heat and vibration? Could a form be made to duplicate in fiberglass?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
