Box Scraper near or far 😳
I am going to build a box Scraper and was wondering on your thoughts. There is the Brinkley design that has one beam that attaches to sleeve hitch. There is the International 40 design which is very close to back of tractor and attaches at 3 points. My way of thinking is the International 40 design is too close, and would dig in every time tractor hits a hole? And that Brinkley design might be better? Want to know your opinion.

"Brinkley" doesn't build a box blade. Brinly does.... So does Agri-Fab IIRC.
The IH #40 box blade is about 100 times heavier than the cheap Brinly one they make now. If you want a good one, you should look at the one Gannon made. If you think you can build one, build it like an IH #40 or a Gannon. If you look, they are made just like box blades for larger tractors. Being close to the tractor isn't going to really make any difference if you know how to operate it. A mounted blade will be affected by the tractor's track PERIOD. If you want a box blade that levels well, and isn't affected (much if any) by the tractor, build a pull type with about a 6' or 8' tongue. |

The close in box is made that way so that you will be able to lift it with a non-hydraulic, manual lift.
The more the attachment is moved away from the tractor, the harder it is to lift. If you have hydraulic lift, you can move the box back,,, a little,, even a hydraulic lift will struggle, if you move it back too far. Build it light,, 1/8" is plenty, no fancy cutting edge, too much weight. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
