Agree, loaded ( or weights ) turfs with chains ( 2 link is better than 4 ) and skinnies up front steer better too.

Anyone have any recommendations on some new turfs to buy? I'm in NC, which it looks like OP is too, so was out plowing the same wet snow. Got over a foot near me though.

I have chains on some ancient turf tires, planning to buy some new ones as the rubber on them is so hard they get no traction. Had to hit the snow with a running start to get anywhere today. I dont currently have much weight on the back either, just bolted some old brake rotors to the rear which helped slightly. Will probably fluid fill the tires when I get new ones.

Look for a turf tire in the size you need, any will do if you don't mind. I got a new set of the 4 link "V" bar chains, which are a little less expensive than the 2 link "V" bar. I don't mind the 4 link for as much as I need to run them. You're better off with a good set of chains before any weight. A good weight solution is going to wmart and buying 6-7 10# cast iron weight lifting weights, and with a small, thick piece of steel bolted to the fixed drawbar, you can bolt the whole stack of weights there. If I ever do fluid fill my tires, I'll use tubes in the tires first! There is no substitute for chains on ice.

Yep, you know me, if it says Cadet its a lawn mower. Would you believe this REALLY pisses off the FB crowd.
Actually this one is turning out to be a toy that I hope will save me from having to put a scrape blade on a tractor for 5 minute jobs. Have used it a couple times for small jobs so far and am impressed since I got enough traction.

Looks good to me John. Turfs with chains and weight seems to do better for me plowing and blowing. I have loaded ags on my Jake with a snow blade, and in the summer I plow garden with it, and it does pretty good, but it will spin in snow and ice where my turfs and chains won't. The filled ags are really good in the dirt though. I have trouble keeping the front wheels on the ground.

Grew up with Dads 125 that rarely had the mower deck off. (used a Farmall H for snow removal) so we always called it 'the lawn mower.'

IMO chains on turf tires do a lot better in snow. Same with big tractors - ag tires don't cut it. R4s are the worst

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
