You could do that, but tire clearance is almost nonexistant even when the axle is stock, so you'd have to extend the steering arm or bend the drag link.

I would like to see that experiment.. I would like to know at what point does it start to over steer to the point that it is hard to correct. Seems like the stock steering should be able to go further without issue.

If the pitman arm were lengthened, the steering would be a tad "quicker" but more difficult to turn.
With a super steer axle installed, you will be increasing the front height of the tractor just a tick short of 2".
So as stated previously, you will need to adjust the deck hangers.
Also,
you might have to "tweek" the steering arms where they are attached to the spindles to allow for clearance on the mule drive, when the axle pivots up/down as the tie rods will hit on it, when they are full turn, left/right.
They do bend easily with just a an 18" crescent wrench.
Sorry if you are aware of all this.

I wonder if you could shorten the spindles to give the tractor the same ground clearance...

Adjusting the deck is a lot easier than trying to shorten spindles/stance.
---------Do remember they are hardened.

There are two different length spindles that will fit the super steer axle.. the early Cyclops tractors before they changed to the deeper decks used the short spindle.. I am using an 1862 axle under my 782 with the short spindles... it will turn very sharp and I retained the same height as the original 782 axle..

We did the 3 turn box only on moms 1450 and man what a difference.. now we get full travel left and right and much easier steering.. should've done it years ago.. also have a 128 with the 3 turn box.. works great also..

Those 3 turn boxes are the cat's meow, i had one in a 1050. I would like to do the 1862 axle swap to my red 582. I have a yellow 682 that turns a lot better than the 582. I thought they would be the same, but not. Never had them side by side to compare. What models had the 3 turn? Mike

I'd like to see a pix of the short & tall spindles together, it would give a great comparison.
I have the tall ones on my 782 & 1650, the other 782 has the axle from a 2072 -- all have power assist.

Bought a 1864 for the steering parts. Somebody drilled a hole in the arm to move it closer to the spindle. (Same as lengthiness the arm on the box)
I never drove it to see how tight it would turn. Sold the axle to somebody and never asked how it worked.

George I have an extra set of the short spindles.. they came with the 1862 axle and had some wear.. I looked on flea bay till I found a nice short set without the wear.. I will see what I can do about pic of the short ones but I don't have a set of long ones to photo

There is a noticeable difference when you see them though... It was easy to tell by a pic when I was hunting them

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
