Default 1864 Adventures

So i have been on the look out for a 1864 for about a year now and i finally got lucky. Someone scored this as colchester over the weekend and posted it on facebook and i bought it within on 3 minuets of it being posted.

It shows just under 390 hours on its working hour meter, Starts right up with no sign of smoke and looks like it's been sitting awhile. It leeks oil from the front and rear main seals. I just plan to service and fix the oil leaks and use this as is.

I will add pictures later as my photo sharing site is down.

Congrats! A low hour 1864 is a great thing to have.

Gonna have to pull the engine to do the seals, so it's a good time to go through and clean everything as well.

All things considered, the 1864 is probably the best (non-super) GT Cub IH or CCC ever made.

Thanks. I kinda figured but honestly this motor looks cake to pull and service. This compliments my 1512 nicely. I’m hoping to find part numbers for the seals maybe something I can get at Napa and do this week.

It's not bad at all. About the same as an 82 series, but it's lighter. Way easier than a 1512.

I just did the front (rear in the tractor) seal on mine last week. KH-24-032-19-S is the p/n.

KH-25-032-06-S Should be the PTO side seal. I didn't do that one, since it didn't seem to be leaking, and I can do it fairly easily without pulling the engine if need be.

I picked mine up from the local CC dealer, but it's a pretty common engine so I'm sure pretty much anyone can get it for you.

Nice 1864!
Has the plastic tunnel cover, so it's a 95 or newer?

Used noses are gonna be in similar condition or headed that way soon. Get you a new one while they are still available.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
