New in central PA.
Hi, all; and thanks for letting me join.
I imagine most of you are collectors and hobbyists, with some still relying on your Cadets to keep your estates in order. I bought a used International Cadet 76 thirty years ago and am hoping to keep it going as long as possible. It definitely shows itself to be a worker. Just this year it started shutting down after 10 or 15 minutes and I think the coil is at fault. I'm having a hard time finding a coil that fits; and, failing that, I might have to contemplate an engine replacement. Original engine is B&S 170707 1231-01 7210301. Suppliers I've found have indicated that coil is NLA. Looking for suggestions and/or recommendations. And thanks again! |

Assumed it had to be something that was failing when the engine got up to temperature, as it always started immediately and ran 10 minutes or so and shut down. Sit and cool for a few minutes and start right back up, but only for a minute or so. Coil is second assumption. I found one online that was purported to fit the 170000 series engines, but it just did not quite fit. Thanks for that part#, Alvy. I'll try one from another supplier; failing that I may have to resort to dropping in a new engine. Thanks everyone. |

Are you sure it's not fuel starvation? Does it quit instantly? Like it was shut off?
Or does it cough and die like it's running out of gas? Does pulling the choke help a bit?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
