New Member in Minden Ontario
Hello, I am retired for about 3 years now with my wife up here in Minden Ontario. We moved away from Toronto to our modest home on the Drag river after the company I worked for let me go after 26 years of service. At first it was a bit of a blow, but looking back on it now, they probably did me a favor. After all, we all only have so much time and my wife and I are now living a good life away from the rat race. Anyway, I purchased a cub cadet 108 back in May of this year for $400 (Canadian). It doesn't have any attachments, but that did not deter me as my thinking was just to have something that I could use to drag the angle iron up and down the private road we life on in the spring and after heavy rain. Also, I have always loved machines of this type (older, simple and strong). Unfortunately, my judgment has never been any good at assessing vehicle purchases and although my Cub ran when I picked it up and took it home, I turned out that it is in what I would now consider poor shape. The good part is that I was able to ride it around a bit and so I know all the gears (creeper too) appear to be working without issue. However, after going over it in June it became very apparent that this machine does need a lot of work. Blown head gasket, sloppy steering, bent clutch plate with missing roll pin, ripped clutch disk, bad brakes and who knows what else. I had to stop work on it at that time because our home needs work and my attention and that had to come first while the weather was good. Now I have a little more time and although my mechanical skills are not the best, I do have my 108 dry in my unheated shed and the engine out of it and in our heated basement. I do have a small shop set up down there with limited tools. I am looking forward to turning this machine into a real workhorse and I am very grateful for a forum like this to look for answers on and to have access to other IH/Cub enthusiasts to bounce things off of. Anyway, thanks for being here and here are some pics.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
