Well guys I scored another Cub for parts and a deck and a belly frame with good pulleys its a Cub 149 hydro static with 14hp Kohler. I know it's a wide frame. I wanted to know what parts besides the steering and tower will fit on my Cub 104. I'll get pics tomorrow of it just got done unloading it.

The rear ends are interchangeable, not much else. Steering columns are different height, but I think it will still fit and work fine. Before you start robbing parts off the 149, are you sure you wouldn't rather spend the time getting the 149 up and running? It's much easier to work on and a more capable machine.

Well I started taking a part the 149 it’s in bad shape definitely parts only. I took the 14hp engine apart the connecting rod was grenaded and it snapped the camshaft. The block is good and cylinder walls look really good. I took the 10HP apart as well. It’s in very good shape besides the cylinder looks egged out and it has a lot of play. I wish I could use the 10hps crankshaft but it’s stroke is 3/8” shorter. So not sure I could use it in the 14hp. I know the camshaft will work on the 14 but now I have to decide what direction to take either way I have to go to a machine shop either for crankshaft on one or cylinder on other. The cam looks amazing in the 10. I really want the 14hp I just hope the crankshaft isnt bent or damaged other than needing reground. I plan on swapping the bearing plate from 10 to the 14 and the flywheel and the 10s housing. I have 2 different style heads with the spark plug in different spots over the valves. I plan on using the thicker one. I am going to get a full on over haul kit for it. I have to get some tools I don’t have such as a valve spring tool and I need a 3 jaw puller to remove the PTO pulleys. I will probably sell what I can’t use or trade it. I’ll get pics up ASAP.

Ok guys after doing some extensive reading on one of the pulling sites you can use the parts I have to create a destroked engine. They call for using the connecting rod out of my 10HP motor with the 14hps block and piston my question is can I use the 14hp connecting rod instead so I have more stroke or do I have to stick with the 10s connecting rod you do have to enlarge the bore on it’s connecting rod and do a rebalance at crankshaft and or fly wheel. I definitely could use some advice on this but think this might be the direction i may go.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
