Default 1812 Driveshaft

I have read where the easiest way to reinstall the driveshaft on a 18xx is to loosen the engine and slide it forward. My question is, no farther than it has to be slid forward, does anything need to be disconnected? What do i need to watch for?

How did you remove it? In pieces, I assume?

The Spirol pin on the coupler at the engine end sheared which let the shaft slide forward enough to let it come out of the pump end. After putting the pin back in the coupler on the engine end, the shaft won't slide forward now, so it wont go back the same way it came out.

Remove the belt from the PTO, remove 6 bolts holding the engine pan in place, remove the driveshaft couplings, then slowly slide engine forward a couple of inches. Replace the driveshaft, and reverse the removal process.

On my 784, after taking the bolts out of the Flex Disc Couplers, I simply take the spirol pin out of the rear drive shaft coupler, slide the coupler down the shaft, and up comes the drive shaft.

Thanks! I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to have to unhook any electrical connections or fuel lines to slide it an inch.

Thanks! My driveshaft has the disconnect clutch on it and the rear coupler wont slide far enough forward to allow me to do that. I was hoping it would as that seemed to be much simpler. Plan B is to slide the engine forward.

Sorry, you made NO mention of the optional disconnect clutch in your original post. Disregard my comments.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
