My shop has one Cub going together and another Cub getting tore apart.
![]() ![]() ![]() Son wants to upgrade motor, clutch and transmission some. ![]() Clutch was toast when it came out: ![]() It only has 25 to 50 hours on it. ![]() The clutch parts on the left were in my Son's 86. The ones on the right go in the 70. The motor is getting a few more ponies before it goes back in the 86. It's been fun having my Son out in the shop working with me. Back to the 70......... Motor needs shields and gas tank bracket installed: ![]() ![]() ![]() Clutch driver was installed on the rear of the motor. To make sure the motor has a good ground I will remove the paint on the starter-generator bracket and where the bracket connects to block: ![]() 70 has a battery ingition system. I removed the paint from the block and starter bracket above the "paint removed" lettering. Front pulley and PTO was installed. Motor is ready to be installed in 70. |

I masked off the area where the throwout bearing rode, and then painted the rest...but the locking collar was hard to slide over all the paint.

Wiring is next
![]() ![]() ![]() I used a wire diagram to attach the wires to the correct terminals. Carb and coil is installed next. ![]() I used the owner's manual to show the correct routing of wire harness, throttle and choke cables. ![]() |

Merk GREAT job!
![]() Thanks for the pics. I love to see them and their explanations. They inspire me to start working on stuff BUT my lack of experience really brings out my timidness. I am just afraid that once I get started and take something apart I'll get stuck and screw it up ![]() |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
