Bit the Bullet

Being on the older side and reluctant to change, I bit the bullet this week and updated my Desktop PC's from Win7Pro to Win10Pro. I had no issues with the Win7Pro, but started getting pop up flags from some programs and web sites I frequented. After a couple of days, there is some things I like about Win10 and some I greatly dislike. I see a big learning curve for me in the days, weeks, and months to come as a "tweak" my PC's.

I resisted upgrading from Win7 to Win10. Go thru and turn off the tracking stuff. I am not upgrading to Win11. I been prompted and I click "no thanks".

BTDT they said all my old pc's were too old to use it, but not so.
I'm running 10 pro, on a desk top and this old dell studio. many drivers were unavailable but was told many old vista drivers would work, and they do.
it is not lightning fast for streaming but neither is my DSL connection in the country.
I really miss XP as it was I feel more intuitive, but I'm older than you, so I have to think longer about what I want to do on the computer to accomplish it.
My Great Gran kids smoke me as far as operating computers they have forgotten more than I'll ever know.
I am also learning a smart phone, OMG so many small letters on the keyboard screen and me with fat fingers, but it does have advantages, I

The programing/changing Hard drives on a pc is easier than operating it for me.
I'll never learn 1/1000 of the operation features.
And What I learn today, is forgotten tomorrow.

I have yet to drive a car that doesn't take a key to start it.
Don't know what I'll do when that time comes.
Then agin, maybe they won't let me drive anyway.

Hey, many of my cars still have the dimmer switch on the floor.....where it belongs!!

Haha, so true!! And they still work after half a century of use and then sitting for another twenty years.

Agree XP was a very good operating environment , I have been utilising computers for over 40 years and most of the so called improvements are of no benefit to me , even the improved processor speeds do not make me type any faster
As for floor mounted dipper switches the jury is out on that one , but I can remember getting out and pulling the switch at night to turn on the rear tail light

I've always been for updates - to XP, to 7, but skipped 8 for 10, and don't really want to try 11.

My experience with Microsoft started with Windows 3.1---> Win95 ---> Win98SE --->WinXP ---> Win7Pro ---> Win10Pro. Of these versions, I liked Win98SE, XP and Win7. The others I could take or leave.

Being in business, it seemed to me, ALL third party software programs revolved around Microsoft and if you wanted these programs to run, one better buy a Microsoft OS.

Gates in his quest for greed and dominance (IMHO), made planned obsolescence part of his game plan, forcing people to upgrade to a more advanced product. Good for him, not necessarily of the end user. Each version is heaped up with more "bloat" than previous, and Gates (or his developers) thinks they know what is best. I took me 1/2 of a day to learn and turn off the "snoop features" on win10.

Likewise with me, although I was working with DOS programs when Windows came along.
I liked XP the best too, but you gotta admit that without graduating thru the previous versions there never would have been XP.
Maybe by the time we get to Windows 15 or 16 we'll all have something we can be happy with again.
