We got some really warm weather, melted all the snow, made the dog park sloppy.

I tore into the tractor, first step, drain the fuel out. Noticed very little flow, ordered up a new petcock and seal right away. Pulled back the tins, (dropped a bolt behind the flywheel) removed the fuel pump, pulled off the carb and cleaned it . Vacuumed out the grass and dead mouse behind the tins. Looked in the tank with a flashlight, guess what? Discovered 5/8” of frozen water in the bottom of it. Guess that explains the low flow and no gas in the float bowl. Fished the bolt out from behind the flywheel and started to put it all back together. Old fuel pump worked good and didn’t appear to leak, but I put the new one in anyways. I removed the peacock and grommet, it worked OK, but was pretty pitted. New one should be here tomorrow. Hopefully by tomorrow night, I’ll have a good starting and running tractor for the next storm. I like these old machines. My wife wants me to just buy a new more modern one. At my age, it’d be probably cheaper to hire it done than buy a new tractor, so I’ll keep putzing with the old machine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
