Governor work did not smooth it out like I hoped. Running rough and kind of rich. On to the carburetor.

Looking good Steve! Have you cleaned the contacts in the distributor cap? The FIL's had a distinct 'miss' that has been fixed after I cleaned the corrosion off the contacts in the cap. Plug #3 contact in the cap was very corroded compared to the other two so I'm going with that being the cause. Although I can't say 100% for sure that is what did it because I also cleaned the carb while I had it off to get access to the dist cap.

Interesting advice. I have never opened the distributor on one of these. I have not had another chance to mess with again. I had it running smooth at various RPM's. The flutter occurers when accelerating or decelerating. Still leads me to believe it's fuel. New fuel filter before the pump and all new lines to pump then the carb. Lines are showing their age. Great flow coming from tank though. There is wear on the governor arm and throttle control arm at the spring sites. Groove/ notches in both. I assume from vibration of loose spring. Only 9xx hours on this one.

I have not put the tester to any electric components but I did fix the loose negative cable clamp at the battery. Was only holding on by one strand of the twisted cable.

If yours is running smooth at all rpms i wouldn't go messing with the distributor cap.... Unless you still have the carb off you might as well access the cap & check it out & wipe it down (I think its also buried there on the wg600 too?) The FIL's now has a wg750 (donor engine after his wg600 crank was ruined) that had a definite miss that seemed to get worse as it heated up. I believe getting rid of the corrosion on the cap contacts fixed that specific issue.

His also had a couple fuel issues but new bung's & strainers, fuel filters, fuel pump & lines got the fuel flowing again and then disabling the fuel solenoid fixed the stalling issue. His seems to be running strong again but I'd like to take the time this winter to rewire it in the simpler sam mac way.

If your carb is still apart can you please take a close up of the float & valve? it looks different than the FIL's and I'm curious...thx.

Put an extra twist on the spring. Mine would vary a little till I did that.
It removes the harmonics in the spring. This was mostly for a stable speed not on accell or decell.

Carb is back on it. I'll take a close up pic of the slight wear on the governor arm and throttle control arms. I have an idea on temporary/permanent "gap filler". I starts easy and idles good. Just throttling up or down causes it to load up a tad then it smooths out. I was adjusting the one screw and making gains but can't fine tune it out.

I believe the screw is idle only. The top end is fixed. Somebody will correct me if I’m wrong.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
