Cool IH electric edger

Picked up this old IH edger at a yard sale on Monday for $10. I plugged it in and it even works. Just curious, does anyone know who made this for IH, or did they make it themselves?

That is kinda cool.

I don't know anything about them but it kinda looks like the Black & Decker or Skill tools of the era.

Try Googleing the numbers on the tag and see what you come up with.

I remember them, think they were sold back in the 70's. Seems there was a hand held weed trimmer (kind of like a hedge trimmer with only a 4 " blade) as well.

Anybody know why these as well as the walk behind tillers all had IH on them and not Cadet? Then again, the lawn carts were IH as well weren't they?

Thanks for all the replies everyone, I think it is pretty cool too. I used it a little today to edge a sidewalk.

I have an older Black and Decker and it looks something like that, so I second what Mark said, but I am no expert on it either.

Cool tool!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
