Default Need help identifying a Command Eng

Hi all. I purchased a 1863 parts tractor that had a ch18s engine with a thrown rod. The deal also included a 2nd Command engine that had no blower housing to identify it. I took several photos of it and hope someone can tell me what HP engine it is. I was told it's a 25 HP. The engine had the ignition wires cut from what appears to be some sort of ignition module that I think went to 2- 2 terminal spark coils. I was reading on another thread about a ch25 having an ignition module. It has a 1 1/8" shaft but it's 3 1/4" long. The ch18 had a shaft length of 2 5/8".

Please see the attached photos.

The carburetor also has a accelerator pump on it as well.

Thanks!

I have been trying to get this unknown command engine to run. I took the spark coils off of the ch18 and put them on this engine. I also used the flywheel from the ch18 as well. I disassembled the carb and cleaned all the crud out of it. I used the blower housing from the 18 as well. When I first tried to start it, it would run briefly on carb cleaner. I had to wait a couple of days for a dipstick to arrive so the pulse fuel pump would work and get gas to the carb.

Today when I tried to start it, all it would do is backfire through both the exhaust and carb. It has a good spark and has 175 psi on one cylinder and 155 psi on the 2nd. I'm thinking I have a timing issue.

Can I use the spark coils and flywheel off the ch18 hp on this engine? Why did it run the other day and not today. I did have the anti backfire solenoid energized and on.

Thanks

I have a GT 3200 that has a 25 hp command and the carb does not have an accelerator pump, but I also have a 3225 with a 22 hp command that does have an accelerator pump on it. Bought both used but believe both have original engines. I see from the photos your are also missing the charging stator.

I used the stator and voltage reg. from the ch18.

I have a 3240 with a 22hp command. I'll have to look at it and see if it has the same carb with the accelerator pump on it. I know it doesn't have the large dipstick though.

Thanks!

Looked at pics again and agree that is a larger dip stick tube than what came on the 3200 series command engines.

If anyone is interested, I got the engine running today. My timing problem was caused by a sheared woodruff key because I did not tighten the flywheel bolt tight enough. My bad!

Engine runs really good. Very pleased.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
