Sarcasm to how to answer problems aside, he said it with lean condition earlier. That’s my vote too. I’d give it a once over, focusing on the fuel. Cooling fins too, maybe marginal on that, and the lean condition made it really hot.

i'm voting for the rod seizing to the crank, or the piston in the cyl.

I had a 14 hp Kohler years ago that acted exactly as described here. I changed the breaker points and the problem went away forever. The only thing I saw wrong with the points was a very weak spring but that fixed it.

Electrical doesn't make sense to cause the symptoms you are describing.
I'm voting for a valve issue.

Well, didn't have time to let it run for a while to see if it fixed it, but Tim takes the lead with his guess. Here is a couple shots of the condenser wire and the wire going to the points. The condenser was BARELY attached to the coil. I also ran a new wire to the switch. Don't know if this was the problem but it certainly needed attention! FWIW, I didn't have a condenser for this, so I robbed one off a 682 parts machine. It cranked, that's all I can say as of now. Checking stock, I don't have any points of condenser for the K series on hand--need to put them on "the list".

Looks like a little housecleaning is in order here.
May just solve other issues as well. 1st off, replace the wire from the coil to the points. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
