Newbie with model 108
Hello...I just got a Cub Cadet 108 tractor and it isn't running. I pulled the spark plug and checked for spark....yes it has spark. I squirted in a small amount of gas in the spark plug hole, reinstalled the plug and she fires and runs briefly.
So, I assumed fuel starvation. Took the tank off and cleaned the petcock screen (it was plugged good). I bought a new float bowl rebuild kit and cleaned the carb with carb spray really well. I unscrewed the needle jet and I wonder what this need jet adjusts? Do I bottom it out and back off 3 or 4 turns? |

Welcome to OCC, looks like you're on the right path to getting it running.

Welcome!
Sounds like your talking about the mixture screw. I start out with 1.5 turns from closed. Then I adjust according once it will idle. If you cant get it to idle then you likely need to clean carb better.

The idle mixture screw initial adjustment is 1.5 turns as you posted. The high speed is the the long one going straight down...that initial adjustment is 2.5 turns out from being lightly seated. Ideally, adjust your spark timing...get that right first...it can be done without running the engine. Set your initial carb adjustments so the engine will run. Once it is up to operating temperature and using fresh fuel...adjust the settings to "tune it".

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
