Solution to QL Gauge Panel / Engine cover lip broken?
What is the solution to fixing the fiberglass lip that always crumbles on these tractors? I'm decent at fabrication and glasswork but hoping somebody can point me to a ready made solution that can be bonded / riveted etc.
Or maybe any tips on an "easy" fix. Not a restoration, just need it functional. It's broken pretty much around the entire perimeter as the PO removed the metal hood catch plate for some reason. I have sourced a "new" catch plate. There is just enough material left that I could graft something to the remaining bits. Thanks !

Build it up with some fiberglass and put the firewall plate back on and adjust it so the hood don't hit the dash when closed.
That's the reason these all these get busted up. The one in the pic has been MIA for a while by the looks of it. |

Already put the new plate on. But the same thing happened on my 1650 with the plate in place. So if its definitely the hood doing the damage I'll adjust as suggested. Also put some edge trim around the hood to lessen the impact of a metal edge on the glass lip.

The bumpers on the firewall plate need to be high enough so the hood does not touch the dash proper.
Adding the trim around the hood, much like the binding on the seat edge, will also result in wearing away of the dash panel Just look at any 82 series to see that result. That panel in your picture looks pretty rotten as though it has spent the last 40+ years out in the elements |

There are bumpers? Seriously I had no idea.
This cub has spent the last 40 years garage kept. Here's a shot of the rest of it. I think because that plate has been missing, the hood hammered it for years.

They are little hard rubber squares, about 3/8 x 3/8 by 2"
They are glued to the top lip of the firewall plate. You adjust the plate so that the rubber bumpers support the hood from underneath and keep it slightly off the cowl lip. |

Anyone have a part # for that bumper? ... could not find any with the advertisers here.
(edit, I'll just find something on Amazon) Also here are some repair pix. Quick and dirty. Not a restoration.

Thx Roland, this looks like a piece of u-channel, not the square bar stock described above. I was not finding any 3/8" rubber bar so using u-channel and placing it over the lip of the catch plate was my next thought.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
