1782 starter gear mesh
My starter was just clicking mostly so I ordered a new solenoid but the new solenoid didn't fix it. Turns out the solenoid is trying to engage the starter gear with the flywheel but the teeth are not always meshing so it fails to pull in fully, thus the solenoid contacts don't close to start the starter. Something I'm missing here?
This is the 1782 w/kubota diesel. Thanks for your help. Eric |

I'm assuming you are using the original style starter, and not the upgrade gear reduction unit?

I would make sure that you are getting full power to the solenoid, and to the starter motor. Could be a case of voltage drop due to dirty connections, high resistance in the safety switch or ignition switch, or a battery that is not healthy. Male sure all grounds are clean. Extra grounds will only help these. The electrical systems in these were not optimum when new, and age just makes it worse.

Check for vermin in the blower housing, they like to make nest on the starter side.
Remove the plate under the fuel pump and you can looky see in there...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
