The drawing shows 2. Why do you want to only use 1? Not being smart just curious why you would not do it like it was when it was new. If you only use one, the driveline will be too short.

The question probably wasn't clear enough. I intend to put both back in but I'm curious why they opted to use two in this application. Was there a specific point where they went from one disc to two? High failure rate for single discs and higher power engines? Just wondering.

probably to handle the torque of a clutch dump. less chance of ripping.

I had thought of that but then the entire 18** series has doubles and even my 782 Hydro has doubles so I don't think it's a manual clutch thing.

Slowly but surely I'm making headway. The disk has been replaced on the shaft. I got a good used drive disk with pins and I installed a new pilot bushing in the replacement used flange assembly. Which brings me to the next question. That flange assembly is not equal sided. One side protrudes outward just a bit and my question is does the protrusion face towards the engine or towards the clutch?
I couldn't tell for sure because whoever had the shaft out to replace the throwout arm forced the shaft back in pushing the pilot bushing out which allowed the shaft to fly around and bugger the old flange. I got a good used flange but need an idea of the correct way to reinstall it.

Put the driveshaft and clutch back in today. As I was finagling the shaft into the pilot bushing I thought I saw the engine moving. Yep, it seems the rear mounting bolts and spacers are gone. Oh swell.

Again, that is extremely common, even on the hydros. The bolts are common grade 5 3/8"-16 1.5" long. The spacers are Cub Cadet 750-3009 .423 X .675 X .469 Lg (Superseded to 950-3009).
That stress caused by the lack of proper engine angle could have made the clutch situation worse.

It's alive! It runs and drives now. Trans works, creeper works. As it turned out only one of the motor mount spacers was missing although both bolts were gone. Five flat washers fit perfectly for the missing spacer.
Next question, the oil light blinks. Bad sending unit or?

Could be a bad oil pressure switch. They are cheap and easy to replace. I would make sure you have proper oil pressure by hooking up a mechanical gauge to the port in the front right of the engine if you are sitting on the tractor. These are 60 psi engines cold, with a normal hot operating pressure of 45 psi, and 25 psi hot idle. The little brass conversion fitting is very fragile, so be very careful when removing the oil pressure switch. If the oil is thin, that will adversely affect the reading, as does wide clearances due to wear and low oil capacity.
