Default ZT1 ultima 50 Transmission

I have a ZT1 ultima 50. It supposedly has the "lifetime" hydraulic transmissions which do not allow service by the owner but there is an access cutout in the engine deck which allows for what looks to be a fill port above each transmission. See photo. There is also a vent and tube a few inches behind the "fill" port. There is no fluid reservoir for the hydraulics.

I have 15% slopes and have been able to mow successfully 3 years but recently have lost power in the left hand transmission when going up hill. There is no Cub Cadet service facility(thx Home Depot!) on the island I live on. The 3 year warranty is therefore worthless.

Q. Can I add fluid myself?
Q. How much?

I can't think what else the problem might be.

First, welcome to OCC...........

I personally have no experience with that model, hoping someone will chime in.

Default Hydro-Gear EZT 2200

Found the fill port. Left trannie was low. added some 20w-50
Worked better for bit then lost power and whining noise returned(when heading up grade)
Works fine with not much whine on flats.

Found the manual for the Hydro-Gear EZT 2200 trans online.
On we go!.......

Good resources. Worse case you might be able to get a used Hydro Gear 2000 or maybe convince CC to send you a hydro if still under warranty? Yours should be covered for 3 years.

I'd think if you explained there are zero dealers on your island that would call for special consideration.

You'd be surprised what cub cadet will send you for free if it's still under warranty. Just give them a call.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
