Unhappy 582 engine overhaul and breather issue.

Hello,

Just got the engine overhauled on the 582 after having it at the engine shop for work. Did a test run today on the garage bench. It starts up and runs but am having a fountain of oil going thru the air filter from the right side breather. The breather is brand new. The left one is not available. I took the breather back out and could not get the red disk to open with some thumb pressure. Leaving the breather sit on its side and oil leaks out around the disk. I put air pressure from my blow gun and compressor thru the tiny hole that must drain the oil back to the valves. I was getting air thru the rubber tube. I put the blow gun in the tube and got air out of the hole. I thought maybe the drain hole was not large enough to drain it quickly. I drilled it out a little larger. Re-installed everything and fired it back up. Same blow by. A fountain of oil soaking the air filter. I put 30W oil in it and it is filled to the center of the dipstick range.

Am I correct the red disk should open and allowed air pressure to pass and the small hole is a drain? It’s a brand new breather. Maybe it’s bad? Anyone have any suggestions so I don’t have oil getting thru?

I have another 582 Thanks.

Anything wrong with plugging the right side breather tube and letting it breath from the left one only?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
