Default QA-42A Rebuild Part Numbers and Information

Hi All,

As I had to do a lot of research to find the right part numbers and sources for rebuilding my QA42A Snow Thrower, I thought I would make a repository of information for future reference to help others doing the same. This information should transfer to QA-36, QA-42, QA-36A, and QA-42A throwers.

Bearings:

Chain Adjuster Bearings: 1" O.D. x 3/4" I.D. x 5/8" Wide full complement needle bearing with oil hole. I used Koyo B-1210-OH.

Auger Bearings: 1" bore universal bearings with locking collar. 2-piece flange with 3" diameter bolt pattern. Universally available at parts stores and farm stores or online.

U-Joints:

Driveshaft U-joints: Napa Precision 1501 (Napa Canada Part # NPJ P1501)

Snow thrower chute adjustment handle universal joint: Purchased from Cub Cadet (Part #684-04350); Also available from ccspecialities https://ccspecialties.org/implementparts_1.html

Chain and Sprockets:

Chain: #40 Roller chain, purchased from my local industrial supply.

Auger Sprocket: Available from https://ccspecialties.org/implementparts_1.html or https://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Sno...r%20Parts.html

14T Chain Tensioner Sprocket: CCSpecialties (Part # IH-76897-C1) https://ccspecialties.org/implementparts_1.html

Miscellaneous:

Decals: Maple Hunters of Texas http://www.maplehunterdecalstexas.co...werQA-42A.aspx

Wings, Drift Hood, drift cutters, wear edge, and skids: Xtreme Motorworks (very nice stuff) https://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Sno...r%20Parts.html

Driveshaft Grease Fitting: Drilled out press-in fitting, tapped to 1/4"-28, and screwed in new 1/4" grease zerk.

Chain Adjuster grease zerk fitting: CC Specialties (Part # IH-109454 Set of 2) https://ccspecialties.org/implementparts_1.html

Spirol coil pin for SMALL sprocket: CC Specialties 3/16 X 1 1/4 in. (Part # IH-591184-R1) (also available from McMaster Carr) https://ccspecialties.org/implementparts_1.html

Drive shaft set screws: CC Specialties (Part # 102-592) https://ccspecialties.org/implementparts_1.html

Gearbox Gasket: CC Specialties (Part # IH-493543-R1) https://ccspecialties.org/implementparts_1.html
Hardware: The hardware is all universal and can be purchased at your favourite local hardware store.

Chain Adjuster Sprocket Shims: To help keep the sprocket aligned, use shims. CC Specialties sells them, I got some 3/4" I.D. x 1.25" O.D. shims from my local industrial supply.

Gearbox Grease: Mine was filled with grease, standard multi-purpose grease is suitable.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
