If they really cared, they would have used the 169 with that scheme.

The Motor in it is an 8HP...NOT 7..
The Engine Numbers I posted earlier is what it rolled out of the Factory with. You can argue and not believe me, but that data is 100% right on.

Roland, I believe he meant it had been replaced with an 8 hp.

Thank you.

Very nice looking machine you have there. The guys are on to something in that if it is the CORRECT replacement engine, then technically it has the correct engine. I understand if you are trying to set it back up as close to factory as possible. This is a model I have only seen brought up once or twice on the forum, I would love to own one. So tell us about your plans, find an original engine and leave the machine as found or are you planning a full restoration? These small IH built machines sometimes get lost in that folks don't know whether to post them under IH section or the small lawn mowers. Maybe Roland would care to guide us as to where these should go. Of course those little white fiberglass wahshtubs were IH machines too.

Thank you John. My plans are not to touch it, in my eye it's original and in fantastic shape. I have the owners manual and receipt from when it was purchased. There were only 3 available for sale in my are in 76, this one sold in 77.

I know the motor was replaced several years later because I bought it from the grandson of the original owner. All I want is to get the correct motor on it and it'll be one of the nicest SO76s I've seen.

I'll double check the engine numbers I have now however I'm confident they'll be from the middle 80s.

Tom

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
