If I am thinking of the part of the axle your talking about it is not like a D, more like 2 flat sides on the circle (axle) where the wheel bolt goes into the end. I am going to spend the day tomorrow looking at details and videos to see where I stand. I may even try and shim the gear closer because the pics dont do justice that the gears arent in that bad of shape for a tractor to not move in 2nd gear. I am not going to give up! And I appreciate the help so far

Great, if the axle has the flats on it. that is the type cub cadet used. therefore it may be original.

I am putting this thing back together and it has been a few months since I have worked on it. Not going back together smoothly and even if I do shim the gear lower, I don't think it is the ultimate solution. Also the brake assembly has a bolt that was stripped out and I'd need to have it coiled. I'm sad to say I might throw in the towel, but only on the transmission, not the tractor. I am just wondering where I can get a replacement one new/used that is in decent shape.

I found this John Deere Peerless that has the cover that looks exactly like the one I have, but I paid under $300 for the mower and to spend $600 on a new tranny is crazy, I might as well scrap it out and buy a brand new one.

Just to show you a little more of my project and why I really want this mower up and running. I took a Saturday and wire brushed, primed, and painted the deck. I also had some parts welded to ensure this mower will last me another 5 years (I hoped)

Yes looks good, don't give up on it the 1315 will be a strong machine if you solve the trans problems. here is a thread on a forum that may be of interest to you:

What a great story. I am only 28 and don't have a ton of mechanical skills but I am old school and would rather do a little research and get my hands dirty than to just go out and buy a whole new mower like most would. It def looks like I have a different transmission in my mower than yours. This could give me more options in finding a replacement/ parts. I am def leaning towards having someone get the tranny going for me, so I know it is done right.

HI everyone, I'm new to the forum and I'm looking for someone that can give me a direction go, weather a member, or sponsor with this transaxle problem I have.

This is a great thread, but I also don't want to thread jack it.

I also have a Cub Cadet, 1315 and I love that tractor. I consider it one of the last respectable tractors built

My issue is with the trasaxel like I was saying. Its a long story, but I had a child running across the street when I was coming downhill in my Cub. I was unaware my father had been using it and the brakes needed to be readjusted. So I had no brakes.

Bottom line I had to slam the tractor in gear will rolling at about 12-15 mph. The trans lost, and blew its guts out the bottom. This tractor is one I plow snow with so this is going to be a two part question.

First can you bolt up a heavy duty transaxle to the cub1300 series? Which ones if you can? And is there a write up, but Ill do it if there isn't.

Second. With the tractors so hard to find anymore does anyone still carry or know how to locate a transmission for the 1315?

Thanks for any help anyone can offer. You guys have a great site

First off welcome to OCC.
Second, you can get the parts from your cub dealer but your going to pay big bucks for a transaxle.
Bolting up a "heavy duty transaxle" really isn't going to be an option being your tractor is a "lawn tractor" and belt drive.
Is there a good option as for your 1315? Hopefully find a used trans or a different parts tractor. Sorry

Welcome to OCC! Your best luck is to find a used tranny if you can or a whole tractor you can use for parts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
