For what it's worth my lt1050 had 300 hours on it when the belt and fan went bad on mine. I replaced it myself along with some idlers and it was a pain. You got a good deal for $110. This is a pretty common failure on these, along with the junk plastic bushings in the front wheels and the mile and a half of slop in the steering. This is what led me to rebuild a 782.

After reading this i greased the brakes on my LTX1045 and it takes off like a charm. it would always groan and chatter after i set the parking break. it was really easy after i found the disk brake and pads.

Default LTX 1045 will not freewheel or go forward or reverse

I mowed grass last week with my 20 month old Cub Cadet LTX 1045 with less 15 hours, (46 inch deck) and parked it in the shed. This week I started it, and when attempting to pull out using reverse it groan making loud sound. Did the same in forward. I shut it off and pulled out the “freewheel” rod. Tractor only would rock inches.
No debris or anything I could see. I called customer service # at cub cadet office, speaking to a woman. Her answer was to check level of the transmission, jack it up and try running it. If that didn’t work take it to a service center. Service center is 25 miles one-way, my expense. So much for a 3 year warranty.

Pulling the right back tire, you can see the “brake” assembly on side of transmission. Trying to move the rod was difficult. There is a disc and a pad like on a car, just smaller.
I pulled the brake assembly apart, sprayed it with WD40 to clean it, than greased the pins with a never freeze grease. Replaced the assembly and tractor runs great.

SO..... you fixed it??

It probably won't matter too much on a lawn mower, but anti-seize doesn't last long on brake components. Should have used a synthetic grease. Anti-seize will lose all the oil, and just have whatever the base of it left. (Different types of anti-seize use different base compounds.)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
