Default Vanguard ring gear replacement.

Found a flywheel from a guy on MFT that had the correct ring gear for the Vanguard that came in that 1641 I bought from Earl Sarvey a while ago that was missing 2 teeth. Of course Briggs no longer sells just the gear they want you to buy a complete flywheel for about $250.00 and no way am I going to put that kind of $$$ into this engine. Figured I’ll gamble a few bucks for a used gear and some gaskets and push rods. Anyway I drilled the rivets out that hold the gear to the flywheel. Then I drilled the holes in the ring gear ¼” , tapped the holes in the flywheel ¼” -20 and bolted the gear on. Fit’s nice so now I’ll buy the other parts I need to fix this old abused girl up. Next problem will be what to put it in once I get it running, can’t have a running engine just sitting around now can we.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
