#26 carter carb woes!!
pulled the carb, soaked it and did a rebuild. floats in good floaty shape. put her back together and fuel was coming from the air cleaner. so i adjusted the tab on the float to make it ride lower. its at a pretty good angle down now. it stopped the leak. rode it around and fine tuned her. parked her and came back a few hours later and still no leaks. thought i had it. this morning though it was bad news. leaking out the air cleaner again. how much of an angle can i put on this float? as much as it takes before it starts to starve for fuel maybe?

Many people will tell you the float needs to be "level" or whatever the gauge requires.
The fuel level in the bowl effects engine performance. I would bet there is a different problem. Dirt, old rubber from a deteriorated line, defective needle or seat, the list goes on and on. Sorry, I do not think I could be lucky enough to hit the one answer. |

has the seat and needle been cleaned/replaced during the rebuild.

the float valve and seat is new. i noticed that the new float valve has a rubber tip on it where it contacts the float tab. new seals, new high rev needle, and throttle bushing. how tight should the float valve seat be in the carb body. i have it pretty snug right now.

It shouldn't need to be that tight.. .I think there's an oring around it isn't there?
You sure that float is good? John

Mine was leaking gas and I discovered that my fuel bowl breather drilling was clogged. Might be something easy to look at.

there is an o-ring and it is made of metal same as the one that came out. all holes were blown out with air. i will check the float again and make sure there is nothing stuck in the float valve.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
