Ol Cubber, the 882 does not have a gp timer in it. They added those on the 1772's as far as I know. As far as the indicator in the dash goes, it is a heavy duty piece of wire the should glow red hot from all the current going through it if all the gp's are working and there is no voltage drop in any of the connections. If a gp is failed or there is a voltage drop then current flow will be down and the wire will not glow red hot. This wire is in series with the gp's and it does reduce the voltage to them because of the resistance it has.
The upgrade is simple. Replace the gp's with the new NGK's. I've heard that the original ones cannot withstand 12 volts applied to them. Take the dash indicator out and connect the two orange wires that attach to it together. This will bypass it. It cannot be used with the upgrade. Use the orange that goes to the front gp to power the new solenoid coil. Take a heavy cable and run it from the + of the battery to one side of the solenoid and I run a #10 wire from each gp back to the other terminal of the solenoid. When complete, when you hit the pre-heat it will pull the solenoid in and apply 12 volts of power to them. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I was under the assumption that a glow plug timer had been added to this machine. That's my fault. I guess the OP never stated that in this thread. There was another thread where a guy was having issues with the controller, I must have been thinking of that one.

I would guess that a light could be added to the same circuit as the glow plugs after the upgrade.
