Default Cub Cadet 106 starting issue

Hello,

I am in the process of restoring and using a cub 106. Anyways, it was running and then parked it in my garage and it wouldn’t start. I have replaced the voltage regulator, ignition coil, and have rewired it with a Hamilton Bobs harness. Anyways when I go to hook up the battery, it is trying to start. I am at a loss and have tried probably 30 variations of wiring. Not sure if it is a starting solenoid or something else. Any advice or suggestions is much appreciated.

One of two scenario's. (A) the tractor isn't wired right, or (B) shorted V/R.

Go to the Technical Library Section and download the wiring diagram and make sure the tractor is wired correctly.

You say you replaced the V/R. Was that a Cub Cadet V/R..??

Make sure we are on same page....was it running before you restored it ? Maybe I'm missing something

I had a 126 that had the same problem when I connected the battery....starter would spin. First thing I had to do is replace the wire harness. Make sure you follow the wire diagram in the tech section. Make sure your grounds have a good clean connection. 106 has several ground connections. Next thing I did was remove one wire at a time and tried to connect battery. My problem turned out to be a bad solenoid.

I've seam too many tractors have grounding/starting issues because fresh paint/poor-rusty grounds.

I've been adding an extra ground wire from the negative battery post to starter generator base. I also make sure the connection between the starter generator and bracket is free of paint and rust.

Thanks, I will check the wiring diagram in the technical area.
I it for about 2 months and it was Running but didnt start it much.

The v/r was based on the model # but not sure if it was a cub cadet part. I will double check but believe it was. I was trying to use oem parts.

There were frayed, corroded and exposed wires all over before getting a new harness/kit

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
