Im not sure I would take the engine apart, unless with a friend with deep knowledge of engines. Else you may end up no better off than it is already (since you dont really 'know').
Find someone that is into pulling and figure out all the rules and regulations. Get everything else about the tractor ready for pulling (wheelie bars, kill switch, hitch, etc etc... Im not a puller so dont know the list). Then talk to your friend some more (maybe take him with you while you talk with an engine mechanic that pulls), and go through step by step what he did. That will give you at least some insight on what was done to the engine and whether it needs taken apart. Just $.02 |

Thank you for the advice! I appreciate it. I have only eorked on big dieselsas far as air force equipment and "maintaining" small gas engines. Craziest thing i have done is turn up the pump on one of our kubota 1100 rtv.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
