Default What removes hy tran grey goop?
Changing the fluid on my 782. There is snotty grey goop above the 'water line' on the upper parts of the rear end. This is probably water encapsulated hy tran. Brake clean doesn't seem to touch it. I've wiped most of it out with blue shop towels but was wondering if there is something that will melt it off so it is cleaner.

Did you try Acetone or Lacquer Thinner ??

An acetone soaked rag, while a little aggressive on the reddish paint on the inside of the rear, did a pretty good job at loosening the stickiness. I got most all of it out. Thanks

The "red paint" is actually a product called glyptal. It is used as a cast iron "sealant".

When I got a 1650 the rear was pure grey white. I slanted tractor to rear. I wiped and washed it out for a week about half hour each just took my time. Used kerosene.

FWIW:
Glyptal is also highly recommended as an insulation for windings in electrical motors/generators etc.
