Decks--- cast iron pieces and otherwise
Does anyone know the progression of the GT's mower decks in regards when the cast end pieces appeared and when they disappeared? I've got several of both and never really thought about their history.
I know it's CC minutia but .....

Those will have part numbers cast in them or tags to identify what years and what they fit.
This is good reading. https://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/...ad.php?t=24721

It will probably be hard to pin point an exact year when IH transferred over to a different style, as they used up surplus at the start of the transition before putting the newer styles on. That is why you will see the same model tractors with slight differences sometimes. For instance, some of the 123's had the dipstick on the top and in the front of the engine and some of them were on the side by the points. Some of the 123's had 48" decks with baffles on the front and some of them did not. Some of the differences may also be attributed to different locations, as some plants may have had more overstock than others to use up. More than likely, you will find a period of a year or two when the change overs were made.

Thanks for the info. I was looking over the drawings in the manual Lew pointed me to. I didn't notice until then, that the cast iron ended decks dont seem to have the roller in the front. I had thought the one I was working on was missing it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
