100 Project
I'm starting a new thread on the 100 I picked up a few days ago. I do have the engine free now, but it's still a long way to go on this.
But, quick question: I downloaded the operators manual for it and it says the crankcase capacity is 5 pints, while the 1x2/1x3 manual says 3 pints. I saw a chart (can't find it now) that said 3 pints for the K241. Which is it? 3 or 5 pints? I'm leaning towards 3 pints (1 1/2 quart) - 2 1/2 quarts seems a bit much, but I do see conflicting numbers for a K241 from literature I have downloaded and/or saw. |

I think I found the answer - everything I'm finding indicates 3 pints (except that one online manual). Luckily I have the original manual that came with this 100, and for some reason the capacity is different on it than the online one. It says 3 pints. So, 3 pints seems to be amount.

Update. Set the gap on the points, replaced the coil, clean the carburetor and replaced the float, plus new gaskets, cleaned the breather, and now it starts. Will have to buy a new battery for it, fix the grille support so the hood does not hit the steering wheel when opening and closing, and I will change the fluid on the transmission.

I noticed the coil was pretty hot - too hot to touch. This was a coil that a buddy of mine had - the coil that was on it was bad. So, maybe this replacement coil might be the wrong kind - or it's bad also. I may have to buy a new, correct coil for this.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
