Default Cub Demonstrator

I figured I'd start an official thread on this project, my goal is to have it done and plowing at PA plow day which starts April 21st. What I'm basically building is a 129 with the dash and controls from a 1450, this tractor will have dual hydraulics and a cat O hitch. I would also like to build some fake axles that stick out to simulate a larger tractor, once there made I plan to fill them with cement to add some extra weight. Once it's all done I plan to top it off with a red and gold paint job like the demonstrator tractor pictured below. If time and money allows i would also like to convert one of my brinly plows to cat O and give it a matching paint job.

I started the mock up today, I started by removing the rear end from the 1450. The rear end is very dirty so it will be getting some new seals and the trunion is in need of some serious help. Once the rear end was out I switched the brake pedal from the 1450 into the 149 donor frame, the 1450 pedal sticks out further from the frame as seen in the pics below. I've had a rebuild kit and a cut crank sitting here for a while so fortunately I don't have that expense right now, I grabbed a bare block off the self and will be dropping it off at the machine shop tomorrow. i plan to put this entirely together so i can make sure the rear end functions as it should and to test fit the sheet metal, i will probably barrow an engine from another cub for the test run.

I like the idea. So how "fancy" are you going to get? Does anyone make the fenders like tractors use or are you staying with the lawn mower fender pan? Gonna fab up a grill like the tractors? Vertical exhaust?

Got to admit you Yankee boys are tough! The darn thing has snow on it and you are already turning wrenches on it. If that were me, you'd find it in the shop warming up and drying off first!

So if this one turns out nice, I think you should get a 70 or 100 and make a white demonstrator C out of it, narrow front of course.

I plan to stick with all cub sheet metal, mwsc has the tractor style fenders but they are aluminum which i don't want on a working tractor, i'd also like to keep cost to a minimum. The red will be case/ih paint but the gold will be base/clear.

That's the thing about a custom build, it can be as simple or complex as you like. With a 3 month window, you are probably better keeping it reasonably simple. So, are you going to 2 tone the rear rims? I vote yes, don't want to see you get off too easy! How about decals, got to have them made?

Yes to the two tone wheels, i don't think it would look good if the wheel was all red. We also have a vinyl sign shop so some custom decals will be no problem.

Sounds interesting, and tasteful. Some try their version of a modified paint job, and well, should have left it as it was instead of ruining it. But we all have to learn to crawl before we could walk...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
