Stretched Cub Cadet
Several years ago I built my wife a stretched Cub Cadet to use for gardening and yard work. She didn’t particularly care for the hydrostatic drive. And, because our place is pretty hilly, she really didn’t like parking it. She’d been after me to redo it as a gear drive for several years, and I finally got around to it about a month ago. You can see the finished project here: http://www.youtube.com/user/cubCadetManVideos It’s the first video on the page. You probably can’t tell in the video, but the gear shift lever had to be moved forward 31 inches. I wasn’t sure it was going to work until it was completely finished and I got to try it out. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it works.

Very cool videos and attachments. Does the back of this one dump or have an actuator? I never knew about the post hole digger, I'm thinking that attachment would be harder to find than the ground saw.

Yes, my wife likes it. She's already used it more than the hydrostatic drive it replaced. And we had the hydrostatic drive for several years.
The bed dumps but it's manual. I may someday add a hydraulic dump. The post hole diggers are rare and hard to come by. I lucked out to get mine. The groundsaws are much more common but I did manage to acquire one that was manufactured in 1968 and never been used. |

Thats really great! How much did you lengthen the frame. I have been thinking of doing the same thing, I have a 108 frame to use for it. Just couldn't decide how much to add.

Randy, I extended the frame by 21 inches. I had planned to go a little longer than that, but a friend gave me the two extensions and that's how long he'd made them. But, I liked the look when I got it finished. And, by the way, I started with a 128 frame from a roller that I purchased at a local auction. The 108 frame should work fine.

In my head, I had planned to put duals on mine with a wider bed.
But......the narrowness of yours is looking pretty good to me. It would go right through a gate and be easier to park in the shop for sure. Thanks for posting! Randy

Nice job!
I'd like to see some pictures of the shift linkage. Would like to do something like this some day as well. Just can't bring my self to modify one of my current tractors, so will need another roller to work on.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
