Well, Jonathan, you may have just solved the mystery! Didn't realize they were different. Makes sense since the 44/50 inch decks have a much smaller center pulley. Thank you!!

I thought they were, but couldn't verify it. Like I said, I spend an hour looking at part books and pictures. Could find different part numbers, but couldn't find a pic. Finally did. The one on the far right is for a 42" deck/wide frame. The one next to it is what you have and it's for a "A" deck.

Most everything I own is 82 style tractors with a few NF's and QL's, but I only have A and C series decks, save one NF deck.... so I had nothing to look at.

I have a pile of frames and mule drives, of both types. Well, three types of mules if you count the bolt on. Easy enough to swap out.

Three straight frames and a curved frame on the "stack-O-decks."

My 108 with a 44A has a curved frame on it. My other 1450 with a 50A has a curved frame on it. my 149 with the 48 deck has a straight frame.

So I obviously got this 1450 mixed up. Changed the mule drive but not the curved frame.

Learned something new tonight. Thank you, Jonathan.

So I swapped out the lift frame from a 44A/50A frame to the 42/48 straight frame. There are two belts specified for this configuration, depending on the deck, 80 or 81 inches. Had both on hand and my deck, being a 68-73 deck, needed the 81 inch belt. Touched up the blades while I had the deck off, and it's back in action.

Thanks again to J-Mech (Jonathan) for spotting the problem I was having.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
