Thoughts on Stacks
What's everyone's thoughts on stacks? Do they serve any purpose? I've heard that they reduce the amount of noise but some say it makes the louder. Anyone have any past experience with one?

Well, you've got an Original. I've got an Original with a stack. Definitely makes it louder, not quieter, though that could be because it's just a cheapo TSC muffler. Benefits are, I can wake everyone up at 8AM with it, and I get an exhaust cap .
My 107 also has a stack which is just the stock muffler with an extra 45 degree pipe extension that it allows it to be positioned vertically outside the hood. IF it wasn't already a rotted out rusty muffler, it might be just as quiet as it would be in it's stock position, but it's still loud anyway. Not that I mind, though, I personally like the sound. However, with any exhaust stack on an IH Cub, you'll want to build an extra support to keep weight off of the exhaust port on the engine. With excess weight and vibration on it the port can crack. Neither of mine have supports yet but I really need to make them at some point.

Stack puts the exhaust in your face.

Big tractors had upwards stack to direct sparks and heat away from dried vegetation. Otherwise, some people think it's a cool factor. I'm not privy of a bong producing carbon monoxide.

I think shorter vertical stacks can look pretty cool on the pre-Quietline Cubs, but to me at least, nothing says tacky like an 82 series with a sawzall cut in the hood/side panel for a crooked stack to come out of.

A "lady" once told me that a "stack" on a small tractor, advertises the operator has "masculine deficiencies" he is trying to make up for.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
