I'm leaning towards the cheap aftermarket carb that is on it. Anyone know of place to get good replacement?

Ok, yes it was the carb, was giving it to much fuel. I picked up a replacement at Cub Cadet dealer. Good to go now. Next question is, what gear oil do I use for rear end? I know it's never be changed.

The 124 uses Hytran or SAE30 at motor oil.

I'm so glad you told us it was a CHI-NAAA carb in the beginning.
I ASSUMED it was an OEM and the engine was rebuilt, so the carb just needed dialed-in or adjusted as most say.
Just goes to show my crystal ball is always wrong.
I should have know better.

For one, I did not know it was a China carb. I did not put it on. I found out after taking it off like 50 times to re-clean it, then took it down to local dealer, and he filled me in.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
