Cub 124 idle
I just got my K301 rebuilt, set the governor, but at high idle the arm goes back and forth a lot. Is that normal?

Yes at WFO,---- wide open governed rpm
With engine warm/hot: Open the throttle note where the needle is set at now, then start turning the high speed jet, Cw (clockwise) you are leaning it up turn slowly till it starts to stumble it will not sound "happy" stop, and note position of screw head. then turn the other way (CCW) slowly, soon, it begin to get rich and stumble, possibly emitting some black smoke, as it is too rich. note position of screw head. 1/2 way between the 2 positions you adjusted is the sweet spot or happy point of the engine,-- your ears are your friend! Now you can do this a couple of times getting it to your liking. When it sounds good, turn it maybe 1/4 to 1/2 turn to the rich side (CCW) Why? because to error to the rich side is better because the engine likes a little more fuel working, like mowing or pulling. And you will not burn a hole in the piston because the engine it running too lean and overheating. Now return to idle and do the same thing for the low, or idle jet if one prefers to call it. When you are finished, listen to see if your happy with the idle rpm's If not, adjust slightly using the throttle stop screw that holds the throttle open just a bit. This works for any carbureted engine that has adjustable jets. |

I might add....
Due to being rebuilt, the block would have had everything removed. Has the governor sensitivity spring been returned to it's original holes or adjusted as described on page 6.32 of the Kohler K-Series Service manual? Also, the procedure that ol'George gave you can be foind on page 6.13. |

Yes the governor has been set it idles fine just when you put any throttle on it the arm starts bouncing back and forth

None of this seems to change the high idle the governor arm is all over the place

Pull the fuel line off the carb and see if fuel is flowing. Your 124 should have a glass fuel bowl on it. Drain your tank and remove the bowl. There is a screen in there that can clog up. Make sure the passage from the tank to the bowl is not restricted. Carb may need cleaned.

Ok it's getting fuel I will clean carb and let you know if it helps

When you pull it apart make sure that the end of the high speed needle is in good shape
