Default Am I crazy?

I might be crazy but, today was the day... day for the first mowing of the season that is!! 40 degrees out, sun is shining, perfect day to put the 106 to work. Didn't need to do the whole lawn, but a spot in front of the workshop was getting long earlier than everything else. Soo, 30 minutes later,,,

IMG_20210401_134332.jpg IMG_20210401_134401.jpg

And the 106 gets to pose next to her hard work!!

funny enough, it's actually snowing right now. Knew it was coming, apparently those forecast guessers we call Weathermen were right for once! It isn't gonna stick around long, though.

Only bad part is, now I gotta go out in it and check on the cows! Got the 2 youngest dehorned today and just need to make sure they're doing alright.

Never dehorned but
'banded" quite a few young bulls, pulled many a calf and got them up to "mom"
for their first drink of colostrum.
Why does mom always wait till it storms or just rained hard, to try to calf?
the fun of being a "cowboy"--not!
I'll remind you the 4th of July in *98 heat with 100% humidity, how you rushed mowing season yep!

George, we do beef cattle. A friend's dairy farm gives away their male Jersey calves free, we take them, raise them for beef, and then sell them. Current count is 5 of them. And heck, if you think the dehorning is bad, you oughta see them get steered!!

That is why I used a band,
I got kicked a few times when castrating them, and it hurt awful.
Now pigs are easy to castrate just the Squeal that is annoying.

Jerseys are too lean after you finish them on corn/hay
Holsteins did better and the taste was better also because of marbling.
But considering the initial cost you prolly come out ahead.
My friend used to contract raise, farrow to finish hogs, and I got all the runts for exchanged labor.
I finished then to #1's and put my son through college doing that,
I miss those days but good memories and I'd do it all over again.
Raised my own beef, poultry & pork, sold what i couldn't eat, and sitty friends lined up to buy.
Raised my own corn/hay, but I did buy 40% soy for hog to supplement.
Both boys showed in the 4H fair as did my Gr daughters years later.
Best way to raise kids is to keep them busy making $$ and having fun.

Ok, I'm resurrecting my thread . Tomorrow, assuming it doesn't suddenly pour rain (which it shouldn't, but you can't ever trust those weathermen!), will be the first full mowing of 2021. Over the past few days it got warm, and then rained a LOT, so all the grass grew.

I'll use the 106 for all the big portions, as usual. Then I'll use my Honda HR214 pushmower for trimming the small areas, mainly the ditch out by the road. And THEN (I'm just coming up with ideas so I can use more machines at this point ) I'll use the 107 to pull a yard cart to dump the grass from the Honda's bagger into. Then feed said grass to cows.

And don't worry Lew, the calf is steered

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
