Default Pulley replacement on 44" deck

Hey guys,

I have a 441U1111 mower deck for my 149 that has two busted up pulleys that need to be replaced before mowing season hits.

The parts lookup calls for IH-59703-C2 for the center double and 756-3008 for the single.

Before I drop around around $100 is there anything I should consider? I've read several threads about a "speed-up pulley" for the center with views on their merits varying widely, so does anyone have thoughts on that?

Also, it took a big filter wrench and a lot of PB blaster and cursing to get the double pulley free from the spindle with that pulley-mounted nut being so far in that well, is there any literature or tips on how to make that process any easier?

The 149, I have the whole deck apart to prep for a good sandblast/paint right now. Planning on using rustoleum almond unless anyone has any better advice, the paint threads are a wealth of information on here

The 441U1111 is the first generation 44" deck. The double pulley for that deck is: IH-50973-C2.

You can increase your mower deck tip speed by using the IH-126393-C1 that was used on the 441U1113 decks.

The outer pulleys remained unchanged.

Thanks for the info sir, would there be an aftermarket center pulley? Seems like that is out of stock on most the sites, the only one I found was used and the guy want $140 for it. Maybe I'll give the cub dealer a buzz

Not aware of an "aftermarket" pulley. Since the part is NLA, the hucksters know this, and ask ridiculous prices.

I wouldn’t bother trying to chase down a ‘speed up’ pulley. I have both and the stock 5” does just fine.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
