Default 2182 and others Rear Taillights

After I discovered this, I searched and couldn't find any threads mentioning it. I apologize if this is a repeat, but thought I would share to try to help others.

If anyone is in search of Taillights for their 2182 or other tractors, and want ones that are accurate to stock, Cub Cadet used the rear side marker lights from a Chevy Vega (also used on other GM models). My originals had part numbers on them that I was able to trace back to that application. The plus is that if you wanted amber instead, you can just get the front side markers from a Vega as well. I was lucky to find someone local with a stash of Vega parts they were liquidating.

The only thing to be aware of is that Cub Cadet used both from the same side of the car (RH, I believe) for both lights on the tractor. If you end up with a LH and RH, you just need to remove the locating ear off the other light with tin snips to get it to install correctly.

According to CC specialties, this is the list of tractors that use those lights:

Thumbs up

VERY good info. I figured this out when I was replacing one of the rear taillights on one of my 4 Cubs last year. They aren't too hard to locate on EBAY or other venues.

Early Chevetts used them also and you have the option of using amber if one wanted to do that.(Front fenders used amber)
But now a days they are not as plentiful as was some years back.
Used to be a day when the junk yards were full of them.
I still have a few pairs here, ---no they are not for sale
I keep them for spares for my 782's

The only parts of my Vega that didn't rust. Funny I kept the lights off a car I parted out and found they fit my tractor 40 years later.

I could only find an NOS set on eBay ($$$) or a single used one for $50. Luckily I found the local ones for $10 each.

I believe mine used two RH lights originally, I'd have to double check again, they're out in the garage.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
