450 Blower Gearbox/Pulley Alignment?
Hey folks! I've been lurking and absorbing all the great info on here for a while, hope to be able to contribute meaningfully some day, but for now I have a question I can't find the answer to here or in the manuals.
I've been getting the 450 blower I got for my 1811 all fixed up and ready for winter (if it ever comes) and I finally got it to the point where I could mount the belt. However, the blower gearbox pulley seems to be slightly misaligned along the lateral vertical plane (i.e. the front of the two idlers are slightly back from the gearbox pulley, either that or the gear box pulley is slightly too far ahead of the idlers). Is this how it should be? Since the gearbox is only mounted on both sides with a single bolt, it would seem that the whole thing could be either moved back slightly due to the elongated bracket holes, or angled a bit so the pulley is tipped more in line with the idlers. I'd think tipping it would cause the impeller to be out of center relative to the housing, as well as mess up the alignment of the auger shaft. True? Moving it back a bit might work without too much issue, since the impeller shaft is splined but success would be dependent on just how much movement fore and aft those elongated gearbox bracket hole would allow. Any sage thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance! |

Uhhh...you mean the manuals have their own part numbers?! LOL.
I found the manual online as the "Owner's manual" indicating it is for the 450 model blower. It has no date of publication but it does have a "form number" of 772-3852. I'll take a look for the manual w/ the # you suggested. Thanks! |

That is the number for the 450 blower assembly, not the manual

Since you are hung up on "form numbers", here is the one I have - 772-3926A
It is located in our Technical Library section - see: 450 Manual

Now granted I don't have the exact same version of the manual as linked in the Tech Library, but I had already thoroughly read both and neither has any detail on my issue at hand. Thanks for the help anyway. |

To my knowledge, there are no Service Manuals for snowthrowers/snowblowers. Just Parts and Owners manuals, at least I have never seen any.
Ok, you are right. Wasn't thinking without my enough of my morning coffee. Instead of "hung up", maybe I should have said "focused in on".

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
