Default Click, but don't turn over

Hi all:
I'm new here. I have a 2003, 3235 Cub Cadet model, with a 23 horse Kohler Command engine. It's a little frustrating sometimes as when I go to crank sometimes it, will start right up. At other times, you have to sit and turn the to start over and over till it starts. This thing has a new battery and everything seems to work fine when it starts. What's up???

Sounds like the early stages of a starter getting ready to quit.

Yeah, funny thing although the battery is new if I put a battery charger on with start mode it generally starts up go figure , I thought maybe it wasn't getting enough voltage to the solenoid.

on another note I saw a little relay kit sometime back that you could add to the starter system but didn't know if it would work on the 3235 since it already has a relay, i think the idea was to give it more volts or amperage.

I don't know about your tractor, but my 2182 is known for this problem due to the electrical connections. You could have bad connections in your electrical resulting in a loss of voltage to the starter, or you could have poor charging because of the same issue, or maybe it's the starter. Start troubleshooting, I'd start with electrical connections.

Before tossing money think of a little maintenance. As mentioned before, electrical connections. Clean the main line up bright and tight from battery to starter. And the ground, too, from the battery to main ground point on chassis or engine.

As Billy said, make sure all 4 ends of the battery wires are good and clean.

Power comes from the Orange/Black wire on the ignition switch then through the PTO switch (In Orange/Black -- Out violet) and then to the brake switch (In / violet -- Out / Orange). From there the orange wire changes to blue on the solenoid.

I would start with a good digital meter and check for 12vdc on the blue wire on the solenoid first and work your way back. If you have 12vdc on the solenoid and it won't engage then that is your problem.

Just remember meters don't lie but they fail to show amperage under load.
You can have voltage through a connection/circuit, but when loaded, it fails to deliver the amperage needed to do the work
.
A garden hose can have #40 of pressure but when opened it dribbles a flow of
a mouse pissin' so it is useless at filling a bucket.
(ok so nobody wants a bucket of that stinky stuff)

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
