If you used the mule drive from the 50C (The part with the pulleys) that's your problem, the 50c driven pulley is offset so the mule pulleys are set at an angle. This is the mule for a Haban, you'll notice the pulleys are straight in line with the driven pully on the deck.

Interesting. Thanks Sam, I’ll check that out. I have the mule that came with it in the garage. I did not notice the angle being different.

So good that there are people that have experience.
you owe Sam a 6 pack

So much for my non experience with a 60" deck mule drive.
Do check the pulleys for wear tho' ---the belt must have been getting hot as well as the mule pulleys.
You just might be able to run that 60' deck yet!
I ran into that angled/ non angled mule drive situation on a 50" deck while swapping it between a 1650 and a 782 not to mention the pulley width difference, but it was quite obvious looking at both of them together

The pulleys are fine, there's very little wear in them, and they're smooth, not pitted. I put the correct mule on and a new belt, and it works great. So, we'll see how long it lasts. With the mules side by side the angle difference was obvious. I don't know how I didn't notice that before, I compared them side by side and used the nicer looking one. That's what I get for being superficial I guess.

Thanks Sam!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
