Oil Consumption Issue
I have a CH18S in my 2518. It has approx. 750 hours on it. I had a failure with the exhaust valve seats, and bent the push rods on both cylinders. So I replaced the heads, valves, springs, and push rods. Everything is torqued to spec. It cranked up and ran good. No oil leaks. It is smoking more than it used to, and after a 2 hour mow, there is no oil showing on the dipstick. I did a compression test, and I get 150 psi on both cylinders. Any suggestions on where I should start with this engine? Am I looking at a total rebuild, or do I just need to look at replacing the rings? If I do a rebuild what parts should I replace?

Could be a bad valve seal on one of the new heads. 150 sounds high and if you are really getting that much compression there is no way it needs rings.

Give it some time. With the problems it had before, it probably lost ring seal. Although, it likely won't recover from it if it is that bad. Go work the dog crap out of it once or twice and see if it seats up again. If not, rebuild it. "Ring jobs" are usually a waste of money.
