Wink

The engine leaked a good amount of oil. It originated from the valve cover. Someone had been there before since the reed valve and it's retainer were MIA. Also the cover was bent. A good used one was sourced. I replaced all the gaskets including the cam gear cover and fuel pump, and the breather filter. No more leak after an hour of run time.

Added all of the light hardware, bulbs, and grille. Also, a shot of the completed float pin.

The tractor came with a new Carlisle tire from Tractor Supply. I purchased the other one from Amazon.

I bought a new Carlisle front tire from Amazon to match the other one the previous owner had purchased. I had the original severely dry rotted Goodyear removed and this one mounted with a new valve stem. The local tire shop had it done in less than 10 minutes.

Nice work on the tractor so far.

I have a weird thing with tires. I don't care how raggedy the tractor is but it better have some decent looking non-dryrotted tires on it that properly hold air.

Yeah, I prioritize that too. Easier to change tires than paint it, plus they're so much more effective.

Default Nice work

I have 2 that I am "saving".Both were local Craigslist finds. One is a 1440 and the other is a 1782. After much consideration I have decided to replace both engines (they are both n/g), with 22hp Predator engines also called the "670".

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
