Good morning all,

Recently picked up my first Cub Cadet, a later series 2182 SGT. It came with big mower deck, more importantly a snow blower/wheel weights/chains, and most important the three cylinder Kubota 21HP gas engine. Big fan of that Kubota as it also is the same power plant in an old Grove 42' manlift I purchased a couple years ago that still purrs like a kitten!

As with any piece of equipment or vehicle I purchase it immediately got the minimum first step of thorough deep cleaning/degreasing and all fluids changed. This basic starting point always provides great opportunity to get familiar with general workings of the various systems, observe what else needs to be repaired/replaced, and best of all leaves you with super clean machine to do any of those additional repairs/replacements on. Decided to give the 2182 a complete disassembly (as in only piece staying intact being the engine), full 2 stage industrial repaint, replacing various seals/gaskets/parts and now working to put her back together for service.

Mid 60's now so hoping this machine will fill the bill for easier work of snow removal on 400' of paved driveway and 1-1/2 acre leaf pick up with recently refurbished/repowered vintage Trac Vac tow behind unit.

Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving with family and hoping to benefit from and add to the shared knowledge of the community.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
